Description: |
This 3-day course reviews the literature relating to the diagnosis and classification of low back pain disorders from a bio-pyscho-social perspective. A mechanism based classification system that directs management of chronic low back pain disorders will be presented. Disorders that have a classification of motor control impairment will be identified. The functional anatomy and bio-mechanics of motor control and impairments relating to the lumbo-pelvic region and its relationship to these disorders will be outlined. The course focuses on developing clinical skills to assess and manage pain disorders of the lumbo-pelvic region, where motor control has been compromised and is deemed to be an underlying basis for disorder. A motor learning management approach based on a cognitive behavioural model is presented. The course is practically based with patient demonstrations - and draws on recently completed and ongoing research into this area. |

Description: |
Have you ever wondered what's beneath the skin of the client that you are treating? During your career as a physical therapist, you have learned many tedious things which you forgot the moment you passed your final examination, but as W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) has said, "in anatomy it is better to have learned and lost than never to have learned at all". Now is your chance to explore the anatomy that is firmly embedded in the philosophy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. This exciting course will allow you to return to the anatomy lab to view prosected specimens of the spine, including craniovertebral area, lumbar spine and pelvic floor. This course will consist of lecture and lab time. |
